The L.H. Anderson Library

Primary Sources

Original texts, collected as I've found them. Titles, years, and author credits are taken from each book's own title page. Anderson didn't credit himself the same way twice, so the byline is listed as it actually appears.

  1. 1884 Great Expose of Mystic Arts Sciences Signed “Lew. H. Anderson”; billed in the testimonials as Prof. Lew. H. Anderson, “The Greatest Living Mesmerist”

  7. 1897 Philosophy of Occultism, or The Key to Mental and Physical Power “By Prof. L. H. Anderson” on the title page, which advertises “including a chapter on ‘The Beauty Sleep’” and the imprint of The National Institute, Masonic Temple, Chicago. The inner title page reads “Second Edition, 15,000 — compiled and arranged by Prof. L. H. Anderson, The National Institute of Science, Masonic Temple, Chicago, 1897.” The Library of Congress stamp is dated 1896, a year ahead of the printed publication date. Two scans of the same book are held here; the second is linked below.
  8. 1898 Natural Way in Diet “Prof. L. H. Anderson, author of ‘How to Win,’ ‘Occult Forces,’ ‘Key to Power,’ etc.” — Nature Series, No. I
  9. 1898 The Curtain Lifted: Nature's Revelations for the Married Only — Secrets of Life Unveiled “Prof. L. H. Anderson,” with a later hand pencilling “ewis” after the L. Issued by the Hunter Publishing Company rather than under one of Anderson's own institute imprints. Catalogued elsewhere as “The Curtain Raised.”
  10. 1899 How to Heal by Nature's Potent Methods† John K. Anderson, Bloomington, Indiana — dedicated “very especially to my son, Prof. L. H. Anderson”
  11. 1909 Scientific Suggestion: The Secret of Success Credited on the title page only to “A Truth Seeker”; the copyright page reads “Copyright 1909 by L. H. Anderson, Chicago, Ills.” — Tenth Edition, 132nd thousand

* The 1893, 1894, and 1896 printings of "How to Win" are different editions of the same text, not separate works: 1893 is the 3rd edition, 1894 (published as "How to Win, by the Aid of Personal Magnetism and Hypnotism") is the 4th, and 1896 is the 5th.

† "How to Heal by Nature's Potent Methods" (1899) was written by John K. Anderson, who dedicated the work to his son, L.H.
